On Friday, the test build for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds received a big update.
Alongside the update, PUBG developer PUBG Corp explained what’s going to happen when the two maps are live for everyone later this week. The developer’s intention was to not allow players to pick the map, the same way they have no hand in choosing the weather conditions.
However, after much feedback, PUBG Corp realised that players saw Erangel, and Miramar as two different game modes, and thus they needed to be able to pick the one they want. The ability to select the map before playing introduces a number of challenges, however, mostly because PUBG already has several different modes in solos, duos, and squads, as well as the two different perspectives in FPP, and TPP.
Adding another variable into the mix means the number of available options goes up to 12, which will hit regions with the lowest player counts the hardest, resulting in extended wait times. Despite this, PUBG Corp promised to implement the feature sometime after launch.
What’s coming this week, though, is the new replay system, which was made available over the weekend to test server players. The 3D replay feature records everything happening around the player in a one kilometre radius. Up to 20 of these can be saved, and players can use the menu to replay any of them from any perspective they choose.
You can also use the free camera to fly over the battlefield, and the system is smart enough to alert you to player skirmishes that you can watch. It’s pretty neat, and will no doubt help story tellers in the community tremendously.
