Discussions about Bayonetta 3 are happening at Platinum Games

Platinum Games wants to make a third Bayonetta game. In fact, the studio is talking internally about what shape the sequel would take.

Platinum Games recently announced that it’s begun working on a new, “formless” IP, but it looks like there’s more going on at the beloved Japanese studio than experimental projects.

Speaking to Sourcegaming at the recent BitSummit event in Japan, producer Atsushi Inaba didn’t shoot down Bayonetta 3 questions.

“I would like to make Bayonetta 3. We’re talking within the company even now about what to do,” he said.

“But because we’re constantly talking about it, that actually makes it really hard to say. If we weren’t talking about it, we could just say something random or offhand, you know, but because we’re actually talking about it…”

Inaba indicated that nothing is off limits in these discussions, including whether or not the protagonist should be changed. “Maybe there would be a male Bayonetta! (laughs),” he joked.

Considering how Nintendo practically made Bayonetta 2 happen, it’s not easy to name which parts of the series Nintendo owns and which part belongs to Sega. Which is why the next game could be a Nintendo exclusive, just as easily as it could be a multi-platform release if Sega saw an opportunity.
