Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode had 1 million players on the first day

Fortnite is the only game on consoles that offers a Battle Royale mode, so it’s no wonder it had a strong start.

Of course, the Fortnite Battle Royale mode is completely free, so it doesn’t require buying into the early access version of Fortnite. Available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, the free Battle Royale version has already attracted 1 million players.

Epic Games revealed the news earlier, confirming that customisation is coming soon. As it stands, you can’t customise your character the same way you can in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

Fortnite’s version of the mode popularised by PUBG, for all their similarities, doesn’t actually support duos or squads – though these are planned for later when the player base grows to a point where it makes sense.

The existence of this mode has made PUBG developer Bluehole uncomfortable, to the point that the studio issued a statement saying it’s not happy, and is contemplating further action.

In a followup interview, Bluehole explained that it doesn’t have an issue with Fortnite copying PUBG necessarily, just that the game’s developer Epic is a partner of Bluehole’s.
