The 90s generation remembers the craze that was Tamagotchi, the handheld digital pet that originated in Japan and spread like crazy across the world. The game was all about keeping a little pet alive and taking care of it throughout its life. It's hard to explain the impact that game had on popular culture; it really was the kind of game that reached the kinds of audiences who didn't usually play video games. Now, Tamagotchi is making a comeback in the form of a free-to-play mobile game called My Tamagotchi Forever. This new game takes you to Tamatown, where you take care of Mametchi and friends.
As was the case in the original game, you'll have to feed, wash, care for, and play with your virtual Tamagotchi, and you'll have to keep them both healthy and happy. There are many characters to unlock, different careers you can give them, and more. It sounds a lot like a version of The Sims but with cute critters instead of humans. I'm curious to see how far nostalgia can carry My Tamagotchi Forever. The game is currently in soft launch and will launch worldwide next year.
