It was nearly two years ago to the day that developer Yak & Co launched their stylish point-and-click puzzler Agent A: A Puzzle in Disguise [$4.99] on the App Store. With is '60s-era spy theme, colorful characters, and high production values, we really enjoyed Agent A in our original review, with one big caveat: The game didn't feel finished. And that's because it wasn't. Agent A was designed as an episodic game, and the initial release version ended rather abruptly on a major cliffhanger. To their credit, Yak & Co have followed through on their plans for new chapters, releasing Chapter 3: Ruby's Trap in December of last year and retroactively splitting the original release into Chapters 1 and 2 in order to fit their structure better. Well, we're nearly a year removed from that expansion, but Yak & Co are still following through on their promises with a new teaser for the forthcoming Chapter 4 of Agent A, which is titled A Narrow Escape.
In A Narrow Escape, you'll be able to "explore new outdoor settings along the cliff top edges of Ruby’s island, sneak deep down inside her Bond-esque underground lair, uncover a gadget laboratory where Ruby builds her crazy traps and inventions, and scale to the top of a mountain to access a giant communications tower." It all sounds quite fitting based on the previous chapters, and it's exciting to see the storyline continue. Following Chapter 4 there is a final chapter being created which is tentatively scheduled to release in Q2 of 2018, bringing the saga to a close. One of the coolest things about Agent A is that even though it's an episodic game, there is no IAP and the additional content is released as free updates. While it's been frustrating that it's taken so long for Agent A to add new chapters, it's easily one of the best puzzle adventures available on the App Store, and I'll be looking forward to getting my hands on Chapter 4: A Narrow Escape when it hits this December.
