Players who AFK farm in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds are on developer Bluehole’s watch list, as it prepares to address the problem.
Speaking with PC Gamer at PAX West, producer Chang-Han Kim said the team were aware of AFK farming and that it plans to tackle the problem soon, although admitted he wasn’t sure of the solution just yet.
“We have the team working to analyse what’s actually going on there,” he said.
“We know that the portion of players that are AFKing.. isn’t that high as of now, but we do want to create a tool or vehicles to prevent players from just trying to earn BP [Battle Points] and not playing the game.”
“It could be us just adjusting the balance of BPs being earnt after each game or just from a structure point of view, preventing AFKs as a whole. We haven’t full decided on a direction for that yet.”
AFK farming is easy in PUBG, with players populating games and earning Battle Points without actually playing the game. Battle Points can then be spent on in-game items to sell on the marketplace.
Although a solid plan isn’t in place to deal with this problem, Chang-Han Kim said that as a company Bluehole has lots of experiencing dealing with farming bots in MMOs.
