Best iPhone Game Updates: 'Minecraft', 'Solomon's Keep', 'Goat Simulator', 'Asphalt Xtreme', and More

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It's time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. I feel like I'm beating the same drum recently, but most of this week's big updates were bringing 64-bit compatibility to older apps like XCOM: Enemy Within and Ryan North's To Be or Not To Be. I've found a few interesting updates that fall outside of that set-up, though, and I'm confident that with iOS 11 out in the wild that we should be back to normal business around here soon. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let's dig in!

Minecraft

Minecraft, $6.99 Pocket Edition no longer! The iOS version of Minecraft joins with several other versions for cross-platform multiplayer with up to eight players at once. Of course, that means a lot of other things had to come in this update to bring the game in line with those versions. That list includes but is not limited to: parrots, fireworks, ravines, jukeboxes, course dirt, books and quills, natural regeneration and TNT rules, more new world starting options, and much, much more. Minecraft: it's what's for dinner.

Goat Simulator

Goat Simulator, $4.99 So you've got all the Goat Simulator games, and you find yourself thinking about why you can't bring goats from one game to the next, right? Like, why can't Fantasy Goat chill out with the Zombie Goat? Coffee Stain hears you, friends. Goat Simulator (and its sister apps) now have crossover packs that allow you to bend the fabric of reality itself and bring the different goats to places they were never meant to be. If you already own the games, the packs are free. Otherwise, you can buy the crossover packs. Or just buy the games. I don't know, it's up to you.

Dashy Crashy

Dashy Crashy, Free Yes, I expected this one was coming sooner or later. Dashy Crashy's ode to the best arcade racers continues this week with a new car called the Driiift Racer. This Ridge Racer-inspired vehicle is just the thing for people who like to fishtail their way around the track. It's yours to keep if you can win 100 races before this Thursday. Might be a bit of a squeeze if you haven't started already, though. But hey, you have to give it your best anyway, for Kaz Hirai's sake if no one else's.

Subway Surfers

Subway Surfers, Free I was just thinking it had been a conspicuously long time since Subway Surfers had updated, and here we are. This time the Surfers head to Singapore, where they'll make their way past giant skyscrapers and through gorgeous gardens. With this being a return trip, there's no new character, but Jia can get a brand new outfit. There's also a new board called the Lion board that you can unlock. Keep picking up orchids to earn some sweet rewards. Just don't get caught, eh? I hear this country can be a little strict on law-breaking hooligans.

Minion Rush

Minion Rush, Free Another Despicable Me movie is in the books, having turned a fat profit, and the Minions are going back to their usual business of collecting tons of bananas and causing trouble everywhere they run. There's a new special mission called Showtime Minions for you to play, and a new Can-Can Dancer costume to collect. You can also continue to collect Mel Cards to unlock the latest Minion character, Mel. Finally, a Halloween event will be kicking off a couple of weeks from now.

Asphalt Xtreme

Asphalt Xtreme, Free Asphalt Rad to the Maxx has a new update that adds some new cars, more masteries, new daily challenges, 3D Touch control support, and more mission variety. The new cars include the Porsche 911 SC and the Porsche Macan, with more cars from the prestigious company on the way. Yes sir, things are looking good for Asphalt Don't Have a Cow, Man. I mean, look. The 1990s are way behind us now. Can we at least re-instate the correct spelling of 'extreme'? No? Okay fine, I'll just be over here, complaining on the internet.

Need for Speed™ No Limits

Need for Speed™ No Limits, Free Now here's a title spelling you can set your watch to. Need for Speed No Limits seems to be on a similar update schedule to its rival, but that just makes things more interesting, doesn't it? Anyway, new cars: 2017 Ford GT and the 2017 Jaguar XE SV Project 8. New events: 1969 Dodge Charger R/T Fastlane and 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Fastlane. Also in this update are some new Flashback Events that let you take on some past events in case you missed them. And that's pretty much that.

Solomon's Keep

Solomon's Keep, Free There are games I'd like to see 64-bit updates for, and then there are games I need to see 64-bit updates for. The Solomon games from Raptisoft fall into the latter camp. Luckily for me, half the job's already done with this lovely update to Solomon's Keep. In addition to the 64-bit compatibility, this update also switches the game to an ad-supported model. If you already bought the game, you can restore purchases to carry on as you were. If you hadn't already bought it, you can pay now to turn off the ads also. The game now supports larger iPhone screen sizes and the previously paywall-locked extra content is now open to all. Bringing back an old favorite? You know that's a coveted UMMSMotW award!

That about wraps it up for last week's significant updates. I'm sure I've missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I'll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
