FIFA 18, Total War: Warhammer 2, Cuphead, Danganronpa 3, the SNES Classic Mini and some great DLC. What a week.
This week delivers stacks of new games and experiences, which is a great end to a nice solid month.
FIFA 18 is probably the headliner as the football sim sells absolute boatloads every year and seems unlikely to stop any time soon now that FIFA Ultimate Team has us all in its grasping little hands.
It’s tempting to lean on stereotypes and paint Total War Warhammer 2 as the total opposite, but there are plenty of fantasy wargaming fans who like a kickabout and vice versa, so we’ll just say there are two enormous life eaters to pick from this week.
If neither of those hardcore experiences appeal to you, maybe you’ll be lucky enough to get hold of a SNES Classic Mini. Nintendo says there’ll be more SNES Classic Mini stock coming if you missed out on a pre-order, and it’s already doing better than the NES Classic Mini.
Although this is a little bit more niche, the third instalment of everyone’s favourite super happy fun times murder club visual novel hits in the form of Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. Another nice new release this week is Steamworld Dig 2, although it’s already out on a couple of platforms.
The Microsoft-published platformer Cuphead finally arrives on Xbox One and PC, and it’s nice to have reassurance some of the things Microsoft announces way too early don’t get cancelled.
Elsewhere, Fallout 4 is being re-released with all its DLC bit and bobs attached. It seems pretty late in the day for this to happen, but the motivation is probably the fact that Bethesda has added an (unpopular) new layer of monetisation with Creation Club.
There’s also quite a lot happening on Nintendo platforms, including Yo-Kai Watch 2: Psychic Spectres for 3DS, and One Piece Unlimited World Red and Sine Mora Ex for Switch.
If your budget won’t stretch to a new game this week, there are a couple of nice DLC drops to consider. Nioh’s Bloodshed’s End pack arrives, Halo Wars 2 gets its Awakening the Nightmare expansion. Arguably the second episode of the new Telltale Batman series should go here, too.
