The Nintendo Switch Online app has launched on iOS & Android

The phone app that you’re going to use for voice chat on the Nintendo Switch has officially launched on iOS & Android.

Right now, the app is only compatible with Splatoon 2. When the game launches later this week, you’ll be able to use a service within the app called SplatNet 2 to invite other players to matches, and use voice chat.

There’s a wide list of activities you can invite friends to in Splatoon 2, but the app also keeps track of your in-game stats and shows upcoming events. Invites will appear as a notification on your phone, so long as you have the app installed.

The Nintendo Switch Online app is free. Voice chat and online play in Splatoon 2 are also free, but only until the Switch Online service launches sometime in 2018. Nintendo already confirmed the service will cost $20 per year.

You can download the app from these links for iOS, and Android. If you’re looking to find out more, Nintendo prepared an FAQ that you should take a look at it.

Splatoon 2 is out July 21, and has largely been well received so far. We also reviewed it and Alex felt that it was a more straightforward sequel than anticipated, but still solid.
