There won’t be a Nintendo press conference at E3 this year.
Nintendo has been absent from the E3 conference craze for several years now, and this year won’t change that. The company has announced that it won’t host a press conference this year at E3.
Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima confirmed this during the most recent financial briefing [PDF]. “We will not be hosting a large-scale press conference for institutional investors, analysts and the media,” he said, adding that more details about Nintendo’s plans for E3 will be revealed at a later date.
This news will certainly disappoint fans who hoped the release of the Switch would be a good incentive for the company to return to hosting a big show at E3.
If the last few years are any indication, expect a pre-recorded Direct to air before E3. This one usually goes on for over an hour. Nintendo may also host Treehouse streams, which go on for entire days rotating between gameplay demos, developer interviews and the like.
E3 2017 is where we’re likely going to get more Super Mario Odyssey details, and hopefully more game announcements for the Switch.
