I learned something new from our own Shaun Musgrave today, and that's the existence of the Japanese string of holidays known as Golden Week. It's a week in Japan where a bunch of big holidays all line up, often resulting in 7-10 days off for Japanese people. According to Shaun, games sell incredibly well during this week, since there's no better time to lose yourself in a new video game than when you have 7-10 days off work. Loads of Japanese developers spin these as a "Spring Sale" in the west, but, now you know. Whether it's to celebrate Golden Week, spring, or for no reason at all, the first three Final Fantasy games are all half off until May 7th. Here's' the links:
While Final Fantasy purists always seem to have some issues with the mobile ports, I recently played through them and really have nothing but good things to say. The sprites have all been polished up, which, in my opinion makes the games a lot nicer to look at on the Retina display. Also, the touch interface and the way the cloud-based save game syncing works is all top-notch.
Final Fantasy VI [$6.99] is also on sale, which we already posted about, and I similarly have nothing but great things to say about the port.
