It’s been a while since the last time a proper Prince of Persia game was released, but it seems not everyone at Ubisoft has forgotten about the series.
Jordan Mechner, who developed the original Prince of Persia and worked on later iterations, revealed an interesting tidbit on Twitter today.
Mechner was asked by model Chrissy Teigen (via Gamespot) if the series is still alive. Teigen said she loved the game, which earned her a few replies from fans and the official Ubisoft Montreal account.
It wasn’t until Mechner stepped in to reveal that he’s actually working on bringing it back that we actually got a proper reply.
“Chrissy, I know a few other people who feel the same way. We’re doing our best to make it happen!” Mechner said on Twitter, though he sadly didn’t elaborate further.
2010 is when the last Prince of Persia game, The Forgotten sands, was released. Its release coincided with that of the first live-action movie based on the series. The game did away with the artful, Cel shaded style of the 2008 reboot for a more gritty look and didn’t earn a spectacular critical or fan reception.
Considering Assassin’s Creed has its roots in Prince of Persia, it’s definitely time for the former to retire for a few years.
